Wisconsin Representative Gallagher Calls for Fauci to Resign

Wisconsin Representative Mike Gallagher (R-08-WI) called for Dr. Anthony Fauci, the chief medical adviser, to resign in an interview with Fox News. Gallagher said, “At a minimum he should step down and we should have a full investigation to untangle the complex web of US taxpayer dollars funding this type of research.”

Calls for Fauci to resign have come after a document was released revealing that Fauci’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) grant approval for high-risk experiments overseas does not line up with the agency director’s repeated denials under oath saying that the NIAID had not funded “gain-of-function” research in Wuhan.

Senator Josh Hawley (MO) tweeted that, “Anthony Fauci has repeatedly and deliberately misled Congress and the American people.” Hawley then called on Fauci to resign.

Gallagher said he believes Fauci is a disgrace to Americans who have been suffering from the impacts of COVID.

“The fact that [Fauci] still has a job is an affront to the hundreds of thousands of Americans who have suffered, if not died, under coronavirus,” Gallagher said.

He added, “Let’s start by subpoenaing Peter Daszak and his entire corrupt organization to get answers. We cannot accept these lies to be the final answer.” When asked if he thought Fauci should step down, Gallagher answered, “Absolutely.”

Peter Daszak is the president of EcoHealth Alliance, one of the recipients of the NIAID grants for a project titled “Understanding the Risk of Bat Coronavirus Emergence.”

Daszak repeatedly denied that the COVID pandemic may have been the result of a lab accident, but some believe the 900 page document proves otherwise.

According to the National Review, the grant for Daszak’s project was awarded for five years, from 2014 to 2019 and was then suspended by the Trump administration.

As reported by the National Review, “The proposal directs $599,000 of the total grant to the Wuhan Institute of Virology for research designed to make the viruses more dangerous and/or infectious — and its author acknowledged the danger associated with such work.”

Gallagher also called for a “full and transparent” investigation of Fauci and the connections to the Wuhan labs. He said that the Biden administration’s claim that there is nothing that can be done regarding Fauci’s misinformation is “bogus and a cop out.”

As was reported by The Intercept, Gary Ruskin, executive director of U.S. Right To Know, a group who has been researching the beginnings of the COVID pandemic, said that the document reveals “a road map to the high-risk research that could have led to the current pandemic.”
